Very interesting Juza and I look forward to seeing these tests. Could I make a couple of suggestions. How about including the Canon 300mm f4 IS L with the 300mm lenses. I only suggest this because I notice that a lot of people asking about the Sigma options can't afford the Canon 300mm f2.8 L, but they do tend to consider the Canon 300mm f4 as an option (I know it is cheaper than the Sigmas). Also I think the older Canon 100mm f2.8 USM would be a nice comparison with the newer IS L version as there seems to be a lot of people asking about this. I actually don't expect there not to be much difference, and it is more to do with what others may ask or be interested in.

Hi Juza, like many here I really appreciate your lens and gear reviews, always clear and with reasoned opinions. For Steb and others interests I recently had the opportunity to photograph the same fine detailed test target with a Sigma300mmf2.8 and a Canon300mmf4, both at f8,identical camera body and magnified live view cable release tripod technique for sharpness.
The Canon lens was SIGNIFICANTLY sharper. There is a saying "One swallow doesn't make a summer" and this was only a test of 1 sample of each, but similar to Juzas findings the Canon300mmf4 is well worth considering if you cant justify the investment in a Canon300mmf2.8. regards Trevor

Thanks Trevor and that's very interesting. I am actually planning to get the Canon 300mm f4 IS L soon, when I've sold some other equipment, so that's good to know.

I have the 300mm f4 IS L and love it. I also have a 400mm f2.8. The 400mm is a motorhome, the 300mm a small sports car to tow behind.

My walking around kit is the 24-105 VR, 15mm Sigma fisheye an 300mm. I love having the huge range in close reach.

The new sigma 70-200 f2.8 is tempting too. If you find some time in this long list (and a good copy..)?

Maybe if you get the chance you should throw the Sigma 70-300mm OS in that review with the Tamron and Canon. Personally I would like to know how you think the Canon 55-250mm IS stacks up to the others as well :)

Thanks for the comments :) I'll try to review some of the lenses that have been mentioned!

In the meantime, I am happy to announce that the 15-85mm review will be online in few days, and I am also testing the new Canon 24mm f/1.4 II (vs Sigma 20 1.8) :)

Hi Juza,

I was recently on the marked for a 100mm macro. I got the the old version because I could not justify the extra money for the IS version. I could not really see a difference in IQ and the built quality isn't that great compared to other L lenses. However, I love see your opinion on these lenses.

It is probably hard to realize, but it would be great if you could compare the 2 Canon 100mm Macros to the Zeiss Makro-Planar T* 2/100 (http://www.zeiss.com/PHOTO). I am courious whether this the "the ultimate Macro Weapon" or just an rediculusly overpriced lens (1600 Euro) that lives from the great name Zeiss.

have a great day

I am testing one more lens: Canon 14mm f/2.8II (vs Sigma 12-24mm e Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 II)

The Zeiss would be interesting...I'll see if I can find it ;-)

Great news, , thanks for your effort, Juza, you are doing a great job.
I was searching for the kit lens replacement, a while, and it looks like 15-85 is the best lens in this class for now (IQ/Range- wise). Two things are stopping me from buying 15-85 : high price (750€-800€ in my area) and poor macro (1:4.7), so I'm thinking about getting Sigma 17-70 OS HSM (1:2.7 and half the price).
It would be nice to see 17-70 OS HSM review here (15-85 vs 17-70), because the existing ones that I've found online are very controversial.
