Shooting data: EOS 5D + reversed Auto Chinon 28/2.8 M42 + Kenko extension tubes (136 mm) + Minolta T-2400 flash; ISO 200; 1/125s; f/8; handheld. Uncropped.

I wanted to try my old M42 lens for macro photography for far. When I got a reverse adapter for EOS, I ran to the fields to look for interesting objects. This oak jewel beetle (Eurythyrea quercus) was my hopeful object. The biggest problem was the very dark viewfinder because of the long extension tube set. I tried f/13 and more, but I did not see anything :( . So I could use only f/8 that is not the best for DOF. I'll need small LED lamps for the future

yes thanks! this will do very nicely here!
fantastic detail and electric colours!!!
considering you couldn't see anything i think that the result is pretty much ideal.
i would love a bit more DOF (just to cover that other eye)......but that's easier said than done!
overall it's a stunner!, excellent work!!!

Perhaps more depth of field would make it perfect, but its something to add if you can to later images. What you have so far is an excellent image with really vibrant and amazing colour. And what is in focus is really crisp. Nicely done.

Great shot eurythyrea. Real visual impact with this one and the technicals all look good. So a real stunning image and one that works very well.

Thank you friends for your comments.
@ steve and tom: believe me, I wanted the most the depth of field. Perhaps a 2-3 image stack would be better, but with handholding... it' so hard!
@ techuser: the working distance was around 2-3 cm.

Congratulations eurythyrea! This photo has been chosen as "Macro & Flora" Photo of the week !
respirándonos, miramos la campiña que adormece el sol,
los valles y los bosques y la humilde flor,
las islas navegando por la soledad...
