A member of the Dpreview forum has posted a very well done comparison about D3s and 1D4 image quality:

http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read. ... e=34249995

UPDATE: the files have been removed due to excessive bandwidth usage :-/ The good news is that in the next weeks I'd have a 1D4 - and hopefully a D3s, too - in my hands so I'll repeat the test by myself!

I really like this test because you can download the RAW files, so you can judge the real image quality without being influenced by camera settings (sharpening, noise reduction, etc) or by Jpeg :)

I'd say that the Nikon D3s has at least 1 stop advantage in comparison with the Canon 1D4, but...download the files and judge with your eyes :)

The difference is quite substantial. I am REALLY impressed by the D3s. It offers a truly useful ISO 12800 unlike other cameras in the market now. For sports and PJ photographers, resolution is not important but high ISO and out-of-camera jpeg colors are. And that's what the D3s offers.

Canon targeted the D3 and was able to match its performance with their 1D4, but Nikon threw an unexpected curve ball when they released an improved D3s.

Regardless of what others say about in-camera RAW NR, Nikon has done a remarkable job with their D3s. As long as it simplifies users' work-flow without substantial loss of detail, who cares how truthful the RAW files are. More power to Nikon for their remarkable achievement! Canon is probably in a panic mode now. :D Let's see how their 1Ds4 measure up.

It's normal that the D3s is about 1 stop and a bit better than the 1D IV. It isn't really fair to compare them because of the difference in resolution. 12 MP on FF and 16 MP on a 1.3 crop body (is about 27 MP on FF) so I think Canon did a pretty good job!
I'm not expecting the 1Ds IV to reach the same level as the D3s if the go for an even higher amount of pixels. If they keep the 21MP, which I don't expect, they will probably have a nice ISO performance.

Just a bit off topic. Juza...you do know that Jimi Hendrix died in 1970? That's 40 years ago. He was a scruffy looking character too...lol. I like your other profile pic better.
