Hello!

In your 1Ds mk3 review you wrote:
"The 1Ds3 live view is not as advanced the the Live View of the 40D - it lacks of silent shooting, so you still have to use mirror lock up for macro work. Nevertheless, it is a very welcome and useful feature!"

This came up into discussions on Fred Miranda: http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/611960

And then one of the forum members said that: "On the 1D Mark III, the mirror is locked up when in Live View, and it only takes one button push to start Live View."

Could you verify that does user need to use CF for MLU when using live view meaning that is 1D(s) mk3 reallysuch stupid that it flips the mirror when using live view just for fun and to cause vibration?

Hi Samuli,
the live view of the 1Ds3 is the same of 1D3.

From what I understand, in live view mode the mirror is always up - what causes the shake is the shutter curtain, not the mirror...so, why you need MLU? Here is the explanation:

When you are using live view and you press the shutter release, the camera must "reset" the sensor.

With 1D or 1Ds, to "reset" the sensor the camera
A) closes the shutter curtain
1) opens the shutter curtain
2) when the exposure is complete, it closes the shutter curtain
3) it opens again the curtain to come back to live view

the step A is very strong, and it is enough to create vibrations

If you activate MLU, instead:

1) first, you have to exit from live view, otherwise MLU does not work
2) when you press the shutter release for the first time, the camera lock the mirror
3) when you press again the shutter, the opens the shutter curtain
4) when the exposure is complete, it closes the shutter curtain

so you eliminate the step A, and you don't have vibrations

With the 40D, the step A does not exist because the camera is able to reset the sensor electronically, it does not need to close the shutter curtain.
respirándonos, miramos la campiña que adormece el sol,
los valles y los bosques y la humilde flor,
las islas navegando por la soledad...
