Image

Shooting data: D3, 500mm f/4 VR, 1/400th, f/4, ISO 400

Taken in the North York Moors a few weeks ago. It was a stormy day and had just stopped raining. The rain clouds loom in the background, but just as I was lining up this shot, a beautiful beam of light lit up the Grouse and it's surroundings.
*Hope the colours aren't too bright, they look really drab on my laptop screen lol

Great timing. Colors are very pleasing. Maybe a bit tighter crop would work better.

G'day Lee,

What a wonderful image, great colours of the bird, grass and heather. Really like the combination.

Lovely ! ! The colors are wonderful, the detail is fine, and those undulating lines of color...

I like this so much I want to make it perfect: crop 1-2 cm off the left to decenter the grouse? fuss with the darker areas on the horizon to get them a little bit lighter, like the one to the right of the large central "bump"?

the colours look just right on my monitor, a tighter crop could work.....or better still a larger view!, i think at 720 pixels wide it's easy to miss the point of these kinds of shots where the subject is relatively small in the frame/their environment. the flowering heather colours add loads of appeal
nice shot!

Yeah Steve I agree, the environmental shot was what I was ultimately going for!

Congratulations LWP! This photo has been chosen as "Birds and Wildlife" Photo of the week !
respirándonos, miramos la campiña que adormece el sol,
los valles y los bosques y la humilde flor,
las islas navegando por la soledad...

Big congrats Lee, well deserving of POTW.
Reminds me to get the whiskey in for Christmas
