Image

Shooting data: 40D + 300/4L, 1/350 sec at f/5.6, iso 400, tripod, blind, crop

I shot this Red-Bellied Woodpecker from my blind at dusk. It slipped from its perch (don't know why) and scrambled to regain its position. Comments appreciated.

makes an unusual pose John; I like the eye. Maybe that shiny branch isn't what he's used to, normally see woodies on trees with old licheny bark they can dig into easily

Great timing and lovely colours, I just may be tempted to sharpen the head area, particularly the eye - what do you reckon?
Kind regards,

I agree with all that it is a great pose with nice BG. I also have to agree with Jon that the head is a bit OOF. Can happen when the bird does something you're not expecting.

Congratulations John! This photo has been chosen as "Birds and Wildlife" Photo of the week !
respirándonos, miramos la campiña que adormece el sol,
los valles y los bosques y la humilde flor,
las islas navegando por la soledad...
